Meet Scarlett

Antenna has a sister!!! She's a Novia Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever . . . and her name is Scarlett.

She's 10 weeks old . . . she was born on February 13 and will be a red doggie so . . . that's why she was named Scarlett. :o) We got her on Friday, so we didn't get much sleep that night. Then Saturday and Sunday were a little better with only a few times up to potty. However . . . last night she slept well - all the way through the night! (You know how it is with a new baby, people want to know if they've slept through the night . . . now you know!) She also chews on everything . . . and I mean everything!) We're trying to stay right on top of that - but most importantly, she's sweet . . . and now I really have something to keep me busy!!! The NSDTR is the smallest of the retrievers so she should be around 30 pounds - they can be up to 50, but I think that's mostly the boys. The boy doggies are much larger, I thought. Anyway, just thought I'd share in our good news . . .

Our Champions!

So . . . here we are in April - we survived Spring Break here at home, while everyone else in Europe got stuck somewhere else! Hard to believe that the volcano ash that started in Iceland caused so much havoc here. Oh well . . . it didn't cause problems with us, and we thought it was fun to listen to everybody's stories of how they moved about Europe under such crazy conditions - I'm glad things are getting back to normal. It was crazy especially since it was the week that most people traveled due to spring break, and then to have travel plans cancelled right at the end . . . made for unexpected stress, I'm sure. Well . . . we stayed put, mostly because Kate and Mac had qualified to bowl in the European Championship Bowling Tournament. There were kids from 5 different countries represented. Mac placed 5th overall and Katelyn placed 12th. We are very proud of them because they had to "beat" others to even get invited to the tournament and then do well there. It was an exhausting week for us. We had to get up and be out of the house every morning Tuesday to Friday by 7:00 to be at the bowling center that was a little over an hour away. Then we were there until 4:00 each night. Needless to say, I was exhausted and wondered why we didn't stay over at least one night?! Oh well, you know what they say about hind sight??? Anyway . . . congrats to the kids - I'm glad we did it!

What a Beautiful Sight!!!

Well . . . things are still mostly on the dreary side here, but this ONE tree as you exit the airfield where we live. I mean it's absolutely gorgeous! I had wanted to have Katelyn and Mac pose under the tree, but I have been told that the guards don't really like people taking pictures of the entrance and exits . . . you know - operation security violations - so I took this picture when I was the passenger in the car to share with you. (Of course, now they'll know and come get me . . . Oh well, that's the risk I take for each and every one of you!)

After the Change

So . . . as I mentioned before, I learned ALL about spray painting from my friend Ann. I thought I'd show off my latest painting. In fact, I even want to brag that the same furniture in the Aafes garden center was $359 and ours was just a few cans of spray paint!! Everything looks new again! I have wanted to paint our 13 (I think) year old green set for sometime. I didn't do it in Arizona because Ann and I were able to put our two green tables together for larger gatherings. (She's got the same one - in the oval shape!) Anyhoo . . . I thought the black would look nice with all the red things that I have to go with it. I did look for a red umbrella, but couldn't find one I liked exactly, so I brought the black one home - it looks fantastic if I must say so myself. I also picked up these really cool "rope" chairs at IKEA - so not too costly. The only thing missing is all the geraniums in red that will be on the plant stand and elsewhere on the porches. (I didn't want to wait until I got them to show you what the change was so . . . ) Oh, and as you see the lights are up and ready for a party!!! Come on over . . .

Changes Ahead - Before

Just thought I'd show you what else I've been up to lately. I know most of you probably wonder what's been going on . . . so now you'll know. Now realize that I don't want to tramatize you and give you too much, since I've not had too many posts of late. I'll give you one little snipet and then you can come back for more next time. You know how I like to keep you on the edge of your seats . . . HA! :o) (Actually, it's because I only have the before pictures . . . but I do have a plan . . . I promise!!!) I know y'all all know that I love to hot glue things together. Well, my dear friend, Ann, taught me all about spray painting . . . so . . . maybe you can guess what the after pictures will look like, or maybe not??? Come back and see what the future holds . . .

Not What You Expected - Part 2

So . . . today I'm showing you that I have succeded at planting something. You can look back at the blog entry on September 21, 2009 and see what the front of the house looked like for fall. When I planted that stuff, I also put in these cute mini-bulbs. Look . . . they grew!!! Miracles do happen . . . this is proof! I hope things are growing in your gardens to brighten your day as well. It's All About Me!

So . . . just wanted to post what I did yesterday. I went to a decoupage class and made this tissue box. Now, the interesting thing is that everyone else used napkins to do their projects. I went prepared and brought tissues that were Americana because I figured that the teacher wouldn't have any Americana ones. Boy was I right . . . there were all kinds of floral ones that were absolutely beautiful . . . but NOT red, white, and blue. I am happy to let you know that the napkins were 2 ply, but the tissues were 3 ply. After we pealed the layers apart, we painted the boxes a base paint first - I used white. Then we put glue all over one side at a time. The next step was to put the tissue down and then carefully add glue to the top of the tissue. You then had to dry (with a hair dryer) the glued tissue and then cut the edges. After you completed this on all the sides we added the sealer. All in all it was quiet fun, and now the naked tissue box is all dressed! (The bonus of all this was the fact that I remember my Mom doing all kinds of decoupage when I lived here as a child! Funny how all it's all come full circle.)
