School Work Pride

Someone sent this to me in an email and I just loved it!!! I thought it was perfect since we're nearing the end of the year. We have three weeks left of school here, but I know a lot of you have completed your school year! Congrats!!! I can't wait . . . although, I am careful, because once the swing of summer sets in, I'm always ready for school to start again ... crazy, huh?!
ENJOY!!!

It's a GRAND SLAM!!!

WOOOHOOO!!! Mac hit a GRAND SLAM!! (For you non baseball types - that means that the bases were loaded and he hit a home run, bringing the score up 4!) Just thought I'd show the video of the big event. He actually played a stellar game . . . and in the double header that was played, he "hit for the cycle" as well. (Where you get a single, double, triple and homerun in the same game.) His was in the double header, but the other team only played 1 1/2 innings of the second game - so I say he did hit for the cycle . . . besides, I am the mom and I can say so!!! That same particular day he also had 8 RBIs . . . no wonder he just made the All-Star team here! Watch for him to be in PA for the Little League World Series in August!!! We can't wait! We'll keep everyone posted on the results of the games over here. Fingers crossed!!!

By the way, he's number 11 with the blue helmut . . . and is the last one that comes in! :o)

ENJOY!!!

Puppies and Baseball

Nothing much new here - except that we're having continuous fun with puppies and baseball! (Well, actually it should read . . . puppy - we all know we couldn't handle more than one!) I thought I'd catch a picture of Scarlett trying to get one of Mac's baseballs and play with it. She spends most of her time chewing on all sorts of things . . . the baseball still is a little big, but she's even given it a try. She certainly is learning the word, "NO!" The weather here is awful . . . more and more rain. We've been able to mow half the backyard, but not the entire thing. (Remember how huge it is . . . now it just looks funny because half is short grass, and the other half is long . . . oh well . . . it started to rain, and doesn't look like it will ever stop!) Oh how we miss the sunshine and blue skies of Arizona! Anyway . . . enjoy the pictures of our Scarlett with the baseball and remember, the season is in full swing, the only difference here, is that Mac gets to play a lot in the rain! Yea . . . NOT!

ENJOY!!!

Farmer Lydia

The "harvested" aspargus getting washed.

The farm had strawberries and asparagus.

The asparagus is hidden under the dirt in these mounds and even covered by the plastic to keep it white.

The cute "fresh asparagus" blow up doll!

Okay, so here you have it . . . Lydia became a farmer for a day! I went to a "Spargel Farm" to pick the famous white German aspargus - called Spargel. It was a lot of work. You uncover the plastic mounds of dirt and look for the top of the plant coming through. Then you proceed to use your index and middle finger to dig around and down the stalk. (Now, if you didn't have carpal tunnel before . . . you do now!) Then you use a tool to go right along the stalk where you've dug it out and kind of cut it off. The last step is that you have to use a trowel to put all the dirt back in the mound you've just dug out. That way, another stalk can continue to grow, etc. Quite tedious work, I might say . . . and back breaking, too. Anyway, at least now I know why it's so expensive! But, boy oh boy, we had yummy fresh spargel for dinner - that I picked all by myself. That was satisfying! (But, I won't do it again!!!)

ENJOY!!!

Super Mom!

I thought I'd post a picture of what a "Super Mom" would do. So . . . there are grills outside of the chapel here on our airfield. There was a celebration the other day, and the grill was going to be used to heat burgers or hotdogs or something. Anyway . . . the people that were going to do the cooking, opened the grill - only to find a fabulous home for some Mommy bird! She had laid 9 tiny, cute, red-speckled eggs in the most beautiful nest! I mean, she really went to town with all the fluff for the tiny birds to be! Mama Bird flies in an out through the exhaust pipe on the grill. (Thank goodness it's not a gas grill, certainly that would have been a distaster for her!) I got a picture of what it looks like now . . . it won't be long, though, I'm sure. I will try to get a picture of the babies once they're hatched and show that off too. That is one Super Mom, I say!

ENJOY!!!

Caution Drivers!

Well, Katelyn has passed her driving class!!! There's the warning for you! They didn't actually do any "real" driving in the class due to the German laws, but they certainly wore out the simulator. Katelyn got to hit deer, run off the curves of a mountain road, and even drive drunk! Hopefully, these are all things she won't ever experience upon her being behind the wheel for real! One of my friends got to experience driving with her in the simulator . . . needless to say, she'll never be the same!! We still have practice to do, but she passed and that's the important thing. Plus she gets half a credit in the DODDS system. They had to go every Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, so we're also happy to have those back! All in all . . . very successful!!! She won't be able to drive over here until she's 18, but it's a start!

ENJOY!!!

Mr. October in April

So . . . baseball season is here!!! Hope you understand the reference in the title. :o) (I had heard the term, but it had to be explained to me by Mac . . . but it's the title he wanted.) Mac is thrilled to be playing again, and to be the king of the mound and even hitting! He got the team's first homerun!!! He is on the "National's" team and will even get to play a German team this Thursday. Everything is exciting. He is really keeping his fingers crossed to get to the Little League World Series this year - you know how he lives for baseball. Thought I'd share the video of the big homerun. It's fun to see how excited he got after rounding 3rd! Yea for Mac!!!
ENJOY!!!
