Well, here we are visiting Vatican City. It is the world’s smallest country and serves as the spiritual center for millions of practicing Roman Catholics worldwide.
It is usually referred to as a City State and often called “The Holy See”.
Swiss Guards guard the Vatican City which is home to about 800 residents. None of them are permanent. The population of this tiny area, which surrounds St. Peter’s Basilica or church, is made up of priests, nuns, guards, high-ranking dignitaries and, of course, the Pope.
It was definitely worh our visit!

Thanks for these great pics! I'm remembering our trip to Italy. Well, it's really like being there for the first time, because I don't remember much of it. Did you have an audience with the Pope? Were they getting ready for some event? Some of the pictures show all those barriers like they had for Christmas service.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I liked in St. Peter's was the markings on the floor that showed how large each of the other cathedrals were.
Loved the revisit to the Vatican and Sistine Chapel. Great memories for the children. See

I am so glad you are stretching out the Italy story... it is so fun to see you enjoying all these wonderful places. Did you climb the basilica dome? Our big thrill this weekend will be going to the movies one afternoon (because it is supposed to be 90 degrees for several days straight- again). Cannot compare to all your travels and your coooool autumn weather. :) Miss you! xoxo
